Good-Evil Peace Talks Collapse
|
"What part of 'chaotic evil'
|
The talks opened early on the Friday with the early arrival of the Good plenipotentiary, St Benji of the Spoons. Their arrival was understated - a few rental cars arrived and discharged the majority of the Good attendees with a minimum of fuss, although some chose to arrive on their own. The Good dignitaries settled into their quarters and used the time before the arrival of their opposites to relax, mingle and socialise, becoming familiar with the estate where they were attempting to settle their aeons-old dispute. The quarters, although austere were intended to help focus all the attendees attention on the issues at hand.
Rob Shankly, ancient power of Good, expressed his desires to see the vendetta that has spanned every culture since the dawn of time extinguished: "I think we have honestly reached a point where it might be possible. The very fact these talks are going ahead is a wonderful sign, very positive."
Others, such as renowned Lightbringer Charles Twardy were less hopeful. "We've attempted to reconcile our two view points before, and everytime it has ended with with no firm agreement. I'm here to give it another try, but I'm not expecting this to be an easy process."

The arrival of the the Evil diplomats was the antithesis of the calm approach of the Good representatives, some of whom awaited their opposites to greet them formally as they began to arrive. Alex Loke, a bastion of the Morning Sun faction of Good was chosen to meet the spawns of darkness and prepare them for the conference to come. Speaking earlier, Bastion Loke had proven to be confidant, looking forward to a clear future of peace and prosperity.
Others of the Evil delegation made it clear that they were not intending to be so approached. Keast, demon of drug addiction, arrived in a very traditional fashion. Others, such as Julian of the Hewn Mat were just as ostentatious, opening a small portal, making it into a functional gate, stepping through and then closing the gate. Some came to a skidding halt, narrowly avoiding passersby.
The agenda for the first evening called for nothing more complicated than a dinner and social mingling between the two opposing sides, in the hope of inspiring some interpersonal relationships to smooth the awkward first few diplomatic steps. Although the proceedings began with a certain amount of standoffishness, each side made some steps towards acclimatising the other to their preferred environments. Agents of Good had spent the day preparing an ethereal chamber full of light and things of beauty. Although it took some time before the Evil delegates had synchronised with the room's environment, eventually the shift was made and several of the weekend representative spent the evening ammicably.
Contrapuntally, several of the more brimstonesque members of the Evil diplomatic party introduced members of the Good escort to the joys of fire as an art form. St Josh of Buttons in particularily embraced both the artistic and practical aspects of this traditionally Evil pastime.
Not all of the evening was spent so lightheartedly, however. A number of both side were delegated to observing the kitchen over the course of the evening after the previous pancake poisioning incident.

Morning arrived, and the delegates were scheduled to arise early and begin the first formal sessions of the day. However, the meetings were delayed several hours due to some overindulgences the evening before amongst senior members of the Evil contingent. This proved to be the first indication that the negotiations were to prove disappointing, as disgruntled representatives were forced to wait several hours before beginning the sessions. Suspicions began to grow as small groups met surrepticiously.
When the talks did finally convene, the response from the attendees was muted. Breaking into small working groups to discuss individual issues, no one was prepared to be quite as optimistic as they had been the day previously. The mood was a far stretch from the celebratory mien of the evening before, and the delegates were somber and serious.
By sundown, the somber mood had turned positively poisonous. Accusations of stalking, of gratuitiously long delays while delegates consulted with higher authorities and familiars spying on sessions were levelled across the board. The neutral parties complained of attempts to coerce delegates by force to one side or the other, as well as unnecessary spoon mockery. Charges of deliberate sabotage were leveled at Impish Sarah Johnson after she was seen leaving the living quarters with a very smug expression.
As it seemded likely that all involved would turn their backs on the negotiation process, words came that a the more committed devotees of the peace process were hurriedly attempting to reach some sort of agreement over the methods to be used in negotiation. Although a number of the representatives made their opinions clear, other waited tentatively for a potential breakthrough.
In the end, those waiting were rewarded by a joint announcement of the terms and conditions (despite last minute attempts to disrupt the proceedings). On the following day, final negotiations would be carried out in a centralised fashion. All with a stake in the outcome were asked to participate in a calm and restrained fashion.
